Set in a delightful thatched converted stable block that is easy to find near the centre of Abbotsbury, Dansel Gallery is the country's leading showcase for contemporary woodwork. The gallery, which is a true Mecca for woodworkers, houses a superb collection of high quality hand-made items from the cream of British designer craftspeople as everything on display is carefully selected for its good design and quality of finish.

The story of the gallery begins in 1979, when Danielle and Selwyn Holmes set up a workshop and showroom, initially dedicated to their own work. However, they were soon welcoming the work of other artists in wood. A generation later, more than 200 British woodworkers are represented and it is probably the largest concentration of its kind in the country. The collection on display is extensive and ranges from individually designed pieces of furniture and elegant jewellery boxes, clocks, mirrors to toys and one-off decorative pieces that highlight the inventiveness and versatility of the woodworker. The gallery continues to win the highest praise from leading experts in this field and its products are certain to be in demand by enthusiasts and collectors for years to come.
