Witton-le-Wear

Overlooking the River Wear are the hillside terraces of the village of Witton-le-Wear, noted for its handsome green, its open views, attractive cottages and a pele tower attached to fragments of a medieval manor house in the High Street. Low Barns Nature Reserve is a 40-hectare reserve with a nature trail, bird hides, observatory, woodland, ponds, meadow, lakes and river. The Nature Reserve and Visitor Centre are in the care of the Durham Wildlife Trust.
