RomaldkirkBetween Middleton and Barnard Castle, the B6277 follows the south bank of the River Tees passing through pretty unspoiled villages such as Cotherstone and Romaldkirk. The church at Romaldkirk, known as the Cathedral of the Dales, is dedicated to the little-known St Romald or Rumwald, son of a Northumbrian king who could miraculously speak at birth. Beautiful stone houses are set around spacious greens and there are delightful walks close to the river. |
