Egglestone AbbeySouth East of Barnard Castle the road leads over an old pack horse bridge to Egglestone Abbey. It is made up of the ruins of a Premonstratensian abbey of which most of the nave and chancel, built in the 13th and 14th century, survives. Close by is the Meeting of the Waters where the river Greta joins the River Tees, creating splendid views. |
