Cotherstone
Cotherstone is one of the most attractive of the Teesside villages. The River Balder flows into the Tees here and the
foaming Meeting of the Waters is an impressive sight after a rainy spell. A delightful riverside walk leads westwards to Hury, Blackton
and Balderhead reservoirs. Cotherstone Castle, licensed by King John in 1200, is now just a steep mound to the north of the
village, but the village has a fine Victorian church, several greens and a charming mix of houses of various ages
