KirkmaidenKirkmaiden is Scotland’s most southerly parish. Four miles south of the village is the Mull of Galloway, Scotland’s mos southerly point. It comes as a surprise to some people when they learn that places like Durham in England are further north. The lighthouse was built in 1828 to the designs of Robert Stevenson, and sits on the massive cliffs, 270 feet above the sea. The lighthouse is open to visitors on summer weekends. In Drummore, half a mile to the east of the village, is the Kirkmaiden Information Centre which has displays and exhibitions about the area. |
