Carsphairn

Close to this quiet village there used to be lead mines. John Loudon MacAdam the roads pioneer, whose father came from near the village, experimented on his revolutionary road surfaces on what is now the A713 north of the village. The Carsphairn Heritage Centre has displays and exhibits on the history of the village.
