Iwerne MinsterUnusually for Dorset, the church at Iwerne Minster has a spire. It also has one of the few examples of a Victorian church restoration that was actually an improvement. The Lady Chapel here was reconstructed by the architect JL Pearson in elaborate Gothic style, roofed with a stone vault and decorated with intricate floral bosses. The beautiful stained glass is a reproduction of 16th-century Flemish glass. The old village was completely rebuilt in the early 1900s by a very wealthy Lord of the Manor and is notable for its varied cottages all built of red brick. |
