HighcliffeThe most easterly community in Dorset, Highcliffe has a fine beach and views of the eastern tip of the Isle of Wight. The major attraction here is Highcliffe Castle (Christchurch Borough Council), an imposing mansion of gleaming white stone originally built between 1831 and 1835. It was damaged by fire in the 1960s but the exterior was restored in the 1990s although most of the interior remains unrepaired. Guided tours are available every Tuesday and Sunday afternoon; the visitor centre, exhibition galleries, tea rooms and gift shop are open February–23rd December; the grounds are open all year round. |
