West AnsteyThe tiny hamlet of West Anstey lies just a mile or so from the Somerset border. The Two Moors Way passes by just a little to the east and the slopes on which the hamlet stands continue to rise up to the wilds of Exmoor. Despite being so small, West Anstey nevertheless has its own church, which boasts a fine Norman font and an arcade from the 1200s, but is mostly 14th century. The area around West Anstey is one of the emptiest parts of Devon – grand open country dotted with just the occasional farm or a tiny cluster of cottages. |
