MartinhoeSet amidst rolling fields above spectacular cliffs some 700 feet high, the small village of Martinhoe was occupied in Roman times as a signal station keeping an eye out for any aggressive activity by the Silurian tribes of Wales on the other shore of the Bristol Channel.Martinhoe boasts what some argue is the highest waterfall in the West Country - it all depends on how you define a waterfall. Hollow Brook Falls descend 600 feet to the sea in a series of cascades, including two drops of 150 feet each. Coastal waterfalls are quite common on the North Devon and Exmoor coast but unusual elsewhere in Europe, apart from the Norwegian fjords. |
