LoddiswellAfter the Norman Conquest, Loddiswell became part of the 40,000 acre estate of Judhel of Totnes, a man with an apparently insatiable appetite for salmon. Instead of rent, he stipulated that his tenants should provide him with a certain number of the noble fish: Loddiswell’s contribution was set at 30 salmon a year. The benign climate of South Devon has encouraged several viticulturists to plant vineyards in the area. The first vines at Loddiswell Vineyard were planted in 1977 and since then its wines have been laden with awards from fellow wine-makers and consumer bodies. Visitors are welcome, Monday to Saturday. |
