KentonFounded in Saxon times, this picturesque village is famed for its glorious 14th-century All Saints Church. The tower stands over 100 feet high and is decorated with a wonderful assortment of ornate carvings. Inside, there is more rich carving in the south porch and in the Beer stone arcades of the nave. The pulpit is a 15th-century original, which was rescued and restored after it was found in pieces in 1866, and the massive rood screen, one of the finest in Devon, is a magnificent testimony to the 15th-century woodcarver’s art. |
