CadburyTo the north of this delightful hamlet is Cadbury Castle, actually an Iron Age fort. It was built high on the hilltop, about 700 feet above sea level, and it’s claimed that the views here are the most extensive in Devon. On a good day Dartmoor and Exmoor are in full view, and the Quantocks and Bodmin Moor can also be seen. A little more than a mile away stands Fursdon House, which has been lived in by the Fursdon family since around 1260. The varied architecture reflects the many additions made over the centuries. Some fascinating family memorabilia, including old scrapbooks, are on display, there’s an excellent collection of 18th-century costumes and textiles. Amongst the family treasures is a letter from Charles I written during the Civil War. Opening times are restricted. |
