Bishops TawtonBishop’s Tawton takes its name from the River Taw and the medieval Bishop’s Palace that stood here until the reign of Henry VIII and of which a few fragments still stand. The village today is not over-endowed with listed buildings but it can boast a very unusual one, a sociable three-seater outside lavatory that has been accorded Grade II listed status. This amenity has not been used for 40 years or more (and the brambles that have invaded it would make it rather uncomfortable to do so) but it still looks perfectly serviceable. |
