SwadlincoteHere at the extreme edge of Derbyshire, well south of the River Trent, Swadlincote is known to its inhabitants simply as “Swad” and shares many characteristics with Staffordshire. It is South Derbyshire’s largest town, with a population of about 36,000. Historically more a collection of villages, though officially an urban district, it retains a rural feel that is charming and worth exploring. The Parish Church of Emmanuelle was built in 1846: the year Swadlincote became a parish in its own right. Modern attractions in Swadlincote include Sharpe’s Pottery Museum, Swadlincote Ski Slope, the Conkers amusement park and the Swadlincote Woodlands Forest Park. |
