RoslistonRosliston was recorded in the Domesday Book as Redlauseton, an Anglo-Saxon name meaning 'farm of Hrolf', this Hrolf probably being a Norseman. Rosliston is part of the National Forest and in the Rosliston Forestry Centre there are way-marked walks, a wildlife hide and children’s play equipment. On summer evenings bats may be seen at dusk - several different species make this area their home. The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin is mainly 19th century but the 14th-century tower with its broach spire still remains. Except for the later Victorian furnishings the interior is quite unaltered and well worth a visit. |
