Old BramptonSituated on a quiet road above a wooded valley, Old Brampton is well-known locally for its most unusual church clock that actually has sixty-three minutes in the hour! Just over the road from the Norman church is the George and Dragon pub, where the painter of the clock might have spent too long since he painted only four minutes between twelve and one, then six minutes between one and two. The mainly 13th-century Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul is also of interest for its battlemented walls, short octagonal spire, and Norman doorway and window. Opposite the Norman church is Brampton Hall, a 12th-century building of immense historical interest with cruck oak beams reputed to have come from the earlier village. Also worthy of note is the large cruck barn, probably the largest in Derbyshire, to be found at Frith Hall Farmhouse. |
