MilfordMilford was a quiet hamlet until the cotton mills came. The power of the River Derwent brought Jedediah Strutt and Richard Arkwright to Milford, where he built the mill which gave the village its name around 1780. It was only a year later that their partnership dissolved and both industrialists went their separate ways to forge individual empires. The majority of the mill was demolished around the middle of the last century. What does remain of the mill is now filled with a shop and small businesses. |
