HassopThis little village is dominated by its fine Roman Catholic Church of All Saints (1818) and Hassop Hall, which is now a luxurious country house hotel. The church was built by the Eyre family who, as well as being devout Catholics, also owned some 20 manors in the area. Dating from the 17th century, Hassop Hall was garrisoned for the King by Thomas Eyre during the Civil War and it remained in the family until the mid-19th century when there were a series of contested wills. |
