Great LongstoneThis one-street village has attractive 18th- and 19th-century houses, notably Longstone Hall built in 1747 of red brick and which was the home of the Wright family. Nearby, Longstone Edge is being quarried for fluorspar, the mineral that lead miners threw away as waste, although the National Park Authority is campaigning to stop further mining from taking place in the area, which is one of the most attractive within the National Park. |
