EdensorPronounced ‘Ensor’, this pretty village was demolished then re-built in a different location by the 6th Duke of Devonshire between 1838 and 1842, after he deemed the original village was too close to Chatsworth House and spoiled the view. Only Park Cottage remains in its original location.Unable to decide on a specific design for the buildings, an eccentric, though somehow pleasing, mixture of architectural styles characterises the village, with the graceful spire of Sir George Gilbert Scott’s St Peter’s Church dominating the scene. |
