BorrowashPronounced ‘borrow-ash’, this now quiet village has lost its railway station and canal, which was filled in during the early 1960s. However, thanks to the efforts of the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Society, the Derby Canal is currently undergoing restoration. The Borrowash Bottom lock is beginning to look like a canal lock again too.P H Currey designed the small redbrick Parish Church of St Stephen in 1899. The interior features a low, 18th-century ironwork chancel screen, believed to be the work of Robert Bakewell of Derby. |
