WarcopThe largest village in this part of the Eden Valley, Warcop grew up around a crossing point of the river. The bridge, the oldest to cross the river, dates from the 16th century and the red sandstone buildings surrounding the village green, with its central maypole, make this a charming place to visit. The Church of St Columba is built outside the village on the site of a Roman camp. An interesting building in its own right, it is particularly famous for the Rush-bearing Ceremony, which takes place in late June each year. |
