Holme St CuthbertThis inland hamlet is also known as Rowks because, in the Middle Ages, there was a chapel here dedicated to St Roche. Northeast of the hamlet, and enveloped among low hills, is a lovely 30-acre lake known as Tarns Dub, which is a haven for birdlife. A couple of miles to he southwest, the headland of Dubmill Point is popular with sea anglers. When the tide is high and driven by a fresh westerly wind, the sea covers the road with lashing waves. |
