Great AsbyThis pretty village is set in a wooded hollow, its houses separated by Hoff Beck. Alongside the beck is St Helen’s Well, which is said never to run dry or freeze. Nearby, are the splendid almshouses of St Helen’s, built between 1811 and 1820. Across a footbridge is Asby Hall (private), built in 1670. It was once the home of the Musgrave family of Edenhall whose crest and coat of arms can still be seen above the door. |
