Eskdale GreenOne of the few settlements in this beautiful and unspoiled valley, the village lies on the route of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. Further up the valley stands a group of buildings that make up Eskdale Mill where cereals have been ground since 1578, when it is recorded hat the brothers Henry and Robert Vicars were the tenants, paying an annual rent of eight shillings (40p). Approached by a picturesque 17th-century packhorse bridge, the Mill contains original machinery for grinding oatmeal and is in full working order. |
