BrighamSt Bridget's Church, which was probably founded as part of a nunnery, contains many interesting features, including pre-Norman carved stones, a rare 'fish window' and a window dedicated to the Rev John Wordsworth, son of William and vicar of Brigham or 40 years. One of the tombs in the graveyard is that of Charles Christian, the father of Fletcher Christian, the Bounty mutineer. Fletcher himself was baptised in the church on the day of his birth as it was thought unlikely that he would survive.y mutineer Fletcher, was laid to rest here, and his tomb stone can still be seen in the graveyard. |
