PencarrowA fine Georgian country house completed in 1775, Pencarrow is the home of the Molesworth-St Aubyn family and has a Grade II* listed garden containing more than 600 varieties of rhododendron, along with rock and woodland gardens. A notable feature is the avenue of araucaria whose English name is said to have originated at Pencarrow in 1834 when a guest examined the prickly leaves and declared, “It would puzzle a monkey!” During the season, the gardens are open daily, and guided tours of the house with its superb collections of paintings, furniture, porcelain and antique dolls are available Sunday to Thursday. |
