GwithianThis ancient village of thatched cottages and houses, surrounded by sand dunes to the south of Godrevy Point, remains unspoilt. The high dunes, known as The Towans, back the long stretch of sandy beach that forms the eastern side of St Ives Bay and they have numerous footpaths running through them that provide perfect picnic areas. A sizeable prehistoric settlement is said to lie buried beneath the Towans, along with a 7th century oratory founded by the Irish missionary, St Gothian. |
