Godrevy Point

Owing to its position at the northernmost tip of Hayle’s ‘three miles of golden sand’, Godrevy takes the brunt of the Atlantic swell and is one of the more exposed beaches of the north coast. It is a place of moods ranging from buckets and spades on a sunny summers day to classic rugged Cornish splendour on a stormy winter’s day. Godrevy Point is a well-known beauty spot, along with Navax Point where seals can be sighted off shore. The beach terminates with a low rocky headland and a short distance from the point lies Godrevy Island on which stands the beautiful white lighthouse of Virginia Woolfe’s To The Lighthouse fame. Although the novel is set on a Hebridean island, the lighthouse of the title is Godrevy where Woolf spent her summers, and the story recalls strands of her Cornish sojourns.
