Tarporley

In the days when most of this area was part of Delamere Forest, Tarporley was the headquarters of the verderers or forest wardens. It was from Tarporley in the early 1600s that John Done, Chief Forester and Hereditary Bow-bearer of Delamere entertained King James to a hunt. The chase was, he reported, a great success: “deer, both red and fallow, fish and fowl, abounded in the meres”. A gratified King rewarded his host with a knighthood.
