Nether AlderleyThe village of Nether Alderley lies on the A34 and here you will find Nether Alderley Mill, a delightful 15th century watermill that has been restored by the National Trust. The red sandstone walls are almost hidden under the huge sweep of its stone tiled roof. Inside is the original Elizabethan woodwork and Victorian mill machinery which is still in working order, with two tandem overshot wheels powering the mill. The Mill is one of only four virtually complete corn mills in the county. The 14th century Church of St Mary is almost a private mausoleum for the Alderley branch of the Stanley family, with monuments to dead Stanleys everywhere. |
