Ellesmere PortLocated on the south shore of the River Mersey, Ellesmere Port developed when commercial trading started along the Shropshire Union Canal and later the Manchester Ship Canal. The National Waterways Museum provides the opportunity to explore the former canal port and experience life afloat aboard a collection of cabbal and river boats. The town boasts one of the world’s largest underwater viewing tunnels at the Blue Planet Aquarium. Here, visitors can get right up close to huge sharks, graceful rays and hundreds of other amazing fish, including jellyfish and stone fish . Also, there’s a chance to see tarantulas, vipers, scorpions and Elvis, the Asian short-clawed otter, and other otters in their special enclosure. |
