NelsonAs well as boasting the open-air Nelson Handball Court, dating from the 1860s (and still in use), this village is home to Llancaiach Fawr Manor, a handsome Elizabethan manor house that has been lovingly restored to reflect the year 1645 and the Civil War. During this turbulent time the Prichard family lived here, and visitors can meet members of the family and their servants, all in authentic costumes, as they carry on with their daily lives. As well as preparing meals, gardening and exchanging gossip of the day, a number of activities from that time, such as archery and falconry, are staged. This is a wonderfully entertaining and informative living history museum where visitors also get the chance to meet some of the eight resident ghosts on the special ghost tours. |
