WillenThe village Church of St Mary Magdalene, built in the late 17th century, is an elegant building in the style of Sir Christopher Wren. Willen is also home to another house of prayer, the Peace Pagoda and Buddhist Temple, opened in 1980. It was built by the monks and nuns of the Nipponsan Myohoji, and was the first peace pagoda in the western hemisphere. In this place of great tranquillity and beauty, 1000 cherry trees and cedars, donated by the ancient Japanese town of Yoshino, have been planted on the hill surrounding the pagoda in memory of the victims of all wars. |
