GayhurstBuilt during the reign of Elizabeth I, Gayhurst House was given to Sir Francis Drake in recognition of his circumnavigation of the world, though the building seen today was not the one that Drake lived in. It was later occupied by Sir Everard Digby, one of the conspirators behind the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. |
