GordonThis pleasant village was the cradle of the Gordon clan which moved north into Aberdeenshire in the 13th century when Robert the Bruce granted them the lands of Strathbogie, which had been forfeited by the Earl of Atholl. To the north of the village are the well-preserved ruins of Greenknowe Tower (Historic Scotland), built in 1581 by James Seton of Touch and his wife Janet Edmonstone. It is a typical L-shaped tower house, built originally as a fortified home. |
