Cefn-mawrTowering some 126 feet above the River Dee and carrying the Llangollen branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a magnificent construction some 1,007 feet in length. Built in 1805 by Thomas Telford, this cast iron trough supported by 18 stone pillars was much scorned by people at the time although today it is greatly admired and is still used regularly by pleasure boats. Ty Mawr Country Park is well worth a visit. |
