Bangor-is-y-CoedBangor-is-y-coed, also known as Bangor-on-Dee, is in the area called the Maelor, where the Cheshire Plains turn into the Welsh Hills. The village is well known to race-goers as it is home to a picturesque Racecourse, situated on the banks of the River Dee, which stages several National Hunt meetings annually. The village itself has a charming 17th century bridge said to have been built by Inigo Jones. Across the bridge, the Plassey Craft and Retail Centre occupies some attractively converted Edwardian farm buildings surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Dee Valley. There's a wide choice of traditional hand-made crafts on sale, along with a working blacksmith, an equestrian supplier, restaurant and coffee shop. |
