WoolhamptonThis tranquil village on the banks of the Kennet and Avon Canal had a watermill at the time of the Domesday Survey of 1086 and was mentioned again in 1351, when the manor and mill were owned by the Knights Hospitallers. The present mill, built in 1820 and extended in 1875, was powered by a brook that runs into the Kennet. It was last used in 1930 and has since been turned into offices. |
