TwyfordAt Twyford, the River Loddon divides into two separate streams from which the town takes its name – double ford. With its watery location, it’s not surprising that there have been several mills here. A miller is mentioned in a document of 1163, although the first mill is dated 1363. There was a silk mill here until 1845, and a flour mill until 1976 when it was destroyed by fire. The replacement modern mill lacks the traditional appeal, but it does continue the milling tradition in the town. |
