Hampstead Norreys

Just to the north of the village lies The Living Rainforest, an education and conservation charity devoted to the raising of awareness about the world’s rainforests. Here, in a tract of tropical rainforest inside a giant glasshouse, the temperature never falls below 70°F. Visitors can walk through the humid and shadowy jungles of the lowland tropical forests, the cool, orchid-festooned and ferny cloud forests, and the Amazon with its amazing flowers and wonderful bromeliads. There is also a unique collection of spectacular and rare plants, tranquil pools, the sounds of the tropics, and rainforest animals, including a pair of Goeldi’s monkeys, marmosets, tree frogs, iguanas and Courtney the dwarf crocodile.
