KirkmichaelLike its neighbour Crosshill, Kirkmichael is a former weaving village. However, its roots lie deep into Scottish history. The Parish Church dates from 1790, and the picturesque lych-gate from about 1700.Every May, Kirkmichael is busy with the International Guitar Festival which draws musicians from all over the world. It covers everything from jazz to pop and country to classical. Huge marquees are erected, and local pubs host impromptu jamming sessions and folk concerts. It was founded by the internationally renowned jazz guitarist Martin Taylor, who lives locally. |
