Llanerchymedd

To the north of the village lies Llyn Alaw, Anglesey’s largest lake, well known for its fine trout fishing as well as the abundant wildlife found around its shores. Covering some 770 acres, the lake isactually a man-made reservoir, produced by flooding marshland. It supplies most of the island’s industrial and domestic needs. Some people actually believe that Llanerchymedd was the burial place of Mary, mother of Jesus. A book, The Marian Conspiracy, was een published claiming that the actual burial site is where the present Parish Church of St Mary now stands. This flies in the ace of Roman Catholic dogma, which teaches that Mary bodily ascended to heaven.
