One of the last remaining examples of a water-powered mill in Britain, Thwaite Mills is situated in beautiful riverside surroundings just two miles from Leeds city centre. Visit Thwaite Mills to discover a unique part of Leeds' industrial heritage. Explore the mills and island to discover the importance of water power. Be guided around the mill buildings to see the industrial processes of former years. Marvel at the amazing noises and movements as industrial machines make the mill buildings vibrate.

Have fun at Thwaite Mills on special event days. See 'Scotch Derrick' the steam crane and 'Titan' the historic tractor in action. Look out for the regular train demonstration and 'Steaming Up' days, as well as 'Family Fun Days'. Bring all the family during the school holidays to enjoy the range of outdoor games and Victorian toys available in the paddock.

Enjoy lunch at one of the mills three picnic sites situated on the scenic riverside location. Take a walk around the island to spot the wildlife often seen close to Thwaite Mills, including over 200 species of birds and butterflies. Make the most of the riverside location by exploring part of the 'Trans Pennine Trail' along the River Aire. For the more adventurous, walk from Leeds City Centre south along the river past the Royal Armouries until you reach Thwaite Mills Watermill.
