Over the past few years the Yorkshire Air Museum has become one of the most fascinating and dynamic Museums of its type in the country. With its unique collection of over 40 internationally recognised aircraft and displays all combined into this historic site, make the Museum a very special place for aviation enthusiasts young and not so young. The aircraft collection covers aviation history from the pioneering 1849 work of the Yorkshire bom Sir George Cayley, recognised internationally as the true "17cither of Aeronautice, to WWII aircraft and modem military jets. The Museum has one of the largest special events calendars in the North. The excellent displays house internationally recognised artefacts and in the many original buildings you can explore histories on a varied list of related topics. These include Bames Wallis; Air Gunners; Airborne Forces and Home Guard as well as observing aircraft restoration workshops and seeing how wartime life was like in the French Officers' Mess or the Airmen's Billet. The famous NAAFI restaurant is well known for its excellent fare and Museum shop is well stocked for that extra special gift or keepsake. The site is ideal for private functions, corporate events and conferences. |
