Situated 100 yards from the entrance to the Valley Gardens and Royal Pump Room Museum, the Mercer Art Gallery is home to the district's collection of fine art, which is featured throughout the year as part of an exciting and diverse exhibition programme.2007 is an exciting year when Harrogate's most famous artist, William Powell Frith, is celebrated with a blockbuster exhibition of works by this great Victorian painter from March to July. This is the first exhibition of his work for over 50 years and the first time over 60 of his paintings, prints and drawings have been brought together.Other exhibitions include: Treasures of the Mercer, a chance to see some highlights from the permanent collection; pastel and charcoal drawings by Knaresborough Castle's 2006 artist in residence, Andrew Cheetham; and art from Turkmenistan.Watch out for special events and activities for families, adults, and children. Open: Tuesday to Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday 10-5, Sunday 2-5.Admission is free. |
