Set in 70 acres of historic parkland and gardens, Cannon Hall Museum provides an idyllic and tranquil setting for a day out. For two hundred years Cannon Hall was home to the Spencer-Stanhope family. From the 1760s the architect John Carr of York was commissioned to extend and alter the house while the designer Richard Woods was hired to landscape the park and gardens. Over forty varieties of pear trees still grow in the historic walled garden, as well as peaches and nectarines. The famed Cannon Hall vine grows in one of the greenhouses. The park provides an ideal setting for a picnic, outdoor activities and games. Cannon Hall was sold by the family in the early 1950s to Barnsley Council and was first opened as a museum in 1957. The Hall now contains collections of furniture, paintings, glassware and pottery, much of which is displayed in period settings. It also houses 'Charge', the Regimental Museum of the 13th/18th Hussars (QMO).

The Victorian Kitchen Cafe near the gardens is open each weekend and during the school holidays for home-made light refreshments in the traditional setting of the original kitchens and Servant's Hall. The Museum also has a shop stocking a range of greetings cards, local history books, confectionery and giftware. Off the A635 Barnsley to Huddersfield Road.
