Open every day all year round and voted one of the top six Heritage & History attractions in the UK, Hartlepool Historic Quay and Museum is a fun day out for all the family. Here you will find a re-creation of an 18th century seaport which tells the story of life at sea at the time of Captain Cook, Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar. As well as the coffee shop and gift shop, authentic reconstructions of harbour-side shops surround the Quay, including gunsmiths, tailors and instrument makers. A film presentation shows how two brothers were press-ganged into serving aboard ship and 'Fighting Ships' lets you experience the noise and drama of a naval sea battle.

Guided tours are available of HMS Trincomalee, launched in Bombay in 1817. The oldest floating warship in Britain, it has been lovingly restored at Hartlepool Historic Quay.

The Museum tells the story of Hartlepool from prehistoric times to the present day and includes exhibits such as sea monsters, a Celtic 'Roundhouse', the first 'gas illuminated lighthouse', models, computer interactive displays and PSS Wingfield - a fully restored Paddle Steamer.
